India's Green Power Supply Plan
Oct 12, 2014
Delhi has started queuing up to become generators of green power supply. After Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission worked out the final guidelines on renewable energy generation, residents are looking to reduce their electricity bill through environment-friendly norms.
Tata Power Delhi has received more than a hundred inquiries about renewable energy systems.  "Most of these are from consumers owning rooftop solar systems and they are keen to know the procedures," said from BSES. Last month the net metering regulations announced how to produce clean energy and offset their electricity bills by supplying it to the grid. The price at which this power can be sold to discoms has been fixed at Rs 4.75 to Rs 5 per unit,  and it will change every year depending on the average cost of power.
Tata Power Delhi officials said they have formed a special committee to look into renewable power supply. Most of the calls from areas like Shalimar Bagh, Moti Bagh, Narela and Bawana. They also had queries from industrial areas like Wazirpur and Narela and these places own great potential for solar power with its extensive land. The BSES discoms have started organizing power conclaves to educate big customers about the net metering policy and its impact on tariff. "A major conclave has been organized and more are in preparation. We are also conducting various consumer interactive meets. BSES has tied up with Ecolibrium Energy to provide consumer portal services, where you can see your consumption and the electricity generation," said a spokeman.
